On January 25th, Porsche’s new pure electric Macan made its world debut in Singapore. The new car is based on the new pure electric platform architecture PPE, and is a pure electric luxury sports SUV built with a performance orientation. The first two new cars are the pure electric Macan 4 and the pure electric Macan Turbo, which will be available for pre-sale in the Chinese market from now on. In addition, Porsche also announced that the new pure electric Macan will officially announce the domestic retail price at the Beijing Auto Show on April 25th.
The body size of the new pure electric Macan is 4784mm long, 1938mm wide, and 1622mm high. The length of the vehicle has not changed much compared to the current fuel version of the Macan. The exclusive structure of pure electric allows the wheelbase length of the new car to reach 2979mm, an increase of 86mm compared to the current fuel version of the Macan.
The maximum wheel size of the new pure electric Macan is 22 inches, with a narrow front and wide rear tire configuration. The whole vehicle attitude is still dynamic and domineering, which not only has the clear recognition of Porsche cars, but also fully adapts to the engineering development needs of pure electric vehicles.
The overall design of the new pure electric Macan continues the sporty luxury SUV style of the current fuel-powered Macan. At a glance, it can be seen that the new car inherits the mature Macan design language, and also integrates Porsche pure electric vehicles in terms of function and design. For example, the new pure electric Macan introduces a split headlight design. The upper lamp assembly includes four-point daytime running lights, and the design integrated with the fenders highlights the body width. The main lighting module is located slightly lower at the front end, and LED headlights with matrix beams of light are optional.
Air curtains under the headlight module and a low front end optimize airflow, and air intakes under the front of the car are equipped with active cooling air guides. In addition, the pure electric Macan is equipped with an adaptive rear spoiler, and the fully sealed underbody also has a flexible cover. Through a series of aerodynamic design optimizations, the new car’s drag coefficient is as low as Cd0.25.
The distinctive Porsche fly line and the flat rear window form an organic whole, with frameless doors and individual side panels to create a sleek and sporty overall style. The raised "shoulder" profile gives the rear shape a sense of power. The Porsche logo is located in the center of the sculptural three-dimensional taillight belt.
In the interior, the new all-electric Macan features the latest generation of display and operating concepts, with up to three screens, including a floating 12.6-inch curved instrument cluster and a 10.9-inch central display. While the vehicle is in motion, the passenger in the co-pilot can also view information, adjust infotainment system settings or watch streaming video through the optional 10.9-inch passenger display. On the all-electric Macan, the Porsche Cockpit Experience also features, for the first time, an augmented reality head-up display system that visually seamlessly integrates virtual elements such as navigation arrows with the real world.
Thanks to the newly developed PPE pure electric platform architecture, the front sitting position of the new pure electric Macan is 28mm lower than before, and the rear passenger sitting position is also reduced by 15mm, resulting in a more dynamic driving experience. Due to the increase in the wheelbase, the passenger’s legroom has also been expanded. In addition, the luggage compartment volume has also been increased compared to the current fuel version, with a trunk volume of 540L, and the rear seats can be further expanded to 1348L when reclined. There is also an 84L loading space under the front hatch of the new car, and the storage space of the whole vehicle has increased by 136L compared to the fuel version of the Macan.
In terms of power, the new pure electric Macan is equipped with a 100kWh lithium-ion power battery, of which 95kWh can be used by vehicles. Both new cars are equipped with Porsche E-drive high-efficiency power, including the Macan 4 model with a maximum power of 300kW (408 horsepower), a maximum torque of 650 Nm, a zero-hundred acceleration time of 5.2 seconds, a maximum speed of 220km/h, and a WLTP comprehensive battery life of 613km. The more powerful Macan Turbo model has a maximum power of 470kW (639 horsepower), a maximum torque of 1130 Nm, a zero-hundred acceleration time of 3.3 seconds, a maximum speed of 260km/h, and a WLTP comprehensive battery life of 591km.
The new pure electric Macan uses an 800V pure electric architecture, with a maximum DC charging power of 270kW. It only takes about 21 minutes to charge the battery from 10% to 80% at the 800V fast charging station. The maximum charging power at the 400V charging station can also reach 135kW. When charging with a household wall-mounted charging case, the AC charging power can reach up to 11kW.
Speaking at the world premiere in Singapore, Alberto Obermoud, chairperson of the executive board of Porsche AG, said: "With outstanding E-drive efficiency, a new Porsche cockpit experience and a particularly exciting design, the all-electric Macan sets a new standard."
Since its launch in 2013, the Porsche Macan has delivered more than 800,000 fuel-powered models around the world, and is also the best-selling Porsche car in the Chinese market. As the latest generation of the pure electric Macan series, I am afraid that this new car has already won the "blockbuster reservation". Porsche officials said that the new car will start accepting reservations on the day of its launch.
